A US-backed 28-point peace plan to end the Russia-Ukraine war is based on documents provided by Moscow.
Russian officials submitted the documents to the administration of US President Donald Trump last October.
Three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Sources said the documents, which were informally handed over to Washington last October, mentioned Moscow's various conditions for ending the war.
One such condition is the handing over of some territory in eastern Ukraine to Russia.
Just before this, Trump had a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.Reuters contacted the US State Department and the Russian and Ukrainian embassies in Washington to find out about this.
However, no comment was received.
However, Trump is optimistic about this plan.
He wrote on social media that his special envoy Steve Wittkoff will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Army Secretary Dan Driscoll with Ukrainians.
However, it is not yet clear why the Trump administration drafted its own peace plan by relying on Russian documents.
According to sources, some of the country's senior officials, including the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, said as soon as they saw the Russian conditions in the plan, the Ukrainians might not accept all the conditions.
